I've been in the KH only once since 1999, that was for Tink's mothers funeral. If you ever wondered what the invisible man feels like than go back to the KH for a meeting!

that's the question my wife asked me this morning.
"what would happen if we just walked into the kingdom hall this morning?
would the elders be waiting to talk to us?

i've been lurking on this site for the past two months and just now decided to post.
i was raised a witness, and got baptised only a couple years ago.
however, shortly after my baptism i started having doubts, and began to suffer from low self esteem.
Welcome Enishi!!!

this statement appears to be absolute truth if you were to ask any one of jehovah's witnesses to answer the question: who can one turn to for help in making positive changes in their life?
the literature that they read is peppered with examples of people who once were violent or drug addicted or had other addictions such as alcohol or gambling and are now one of jehovah's witnesses.
first, do you believe that one can only make a change by studying the bible with jws?
Good post Funch! It remind's me also of the claim they make about the door-to-door ministry, that it is the only true "life-saving" work taking place today. Yet many organisations other than the WTS are actually saving peoples lives literally by physically helping at disaster sites, donating blood, donating time and money to help children, which would include people assiting others to clean up their lives i.e.: AA.
Thanks for the post Funch! I enjoyed all the replies too.

i just finished watching martha stewart and after it went off there was a set of commercials before the news came on and i swear i just saw a commercial from the christian congregation of jehovahs' witnesses!.
it was about raising your children with knowledge and love.
it showed a teen girl on the internet in a chat room with a person who had become her best friend and wanted to meet her in person and they said something like if it seems too good to be true it is..'love builds happy familys' was the slogan or something.. .
I usually "mute" the commercials when watching a program. That will be one I won't forget to mute out! I listen to a progressive rock station on my radio so I doubt I will hear it there.....I hope....

i hope someone can "enlighten" me.
my grandmother recently passed away (91 yrs old) and they are having her funeral at the kh.
i can't remember ever having to attend one when i was a kid.
When Tink and I attended her Mom's funeral we had a feeling of guilt overcome us due to the emotions involved of losing her Mom after a long battle with cancer. The speaker was very good and spent alot of time talking about what a great asset her Mom was to the congregation and in the community. The songs they played were probably a big reason of the way we felt and that we had only been out of the borg for a year. Only one or two elders approached Tink to say how sorry they were. The rest of them didn't even look her way. We were not invited to go to her Mom's house to gather and eat. So we had a gathering at our house which was only a block away.
Her Uncle (not a JW) passed away last year. They did not have it at the KH, but all the J-dubs came and the shunning was worse. No one gave us the time of day.
Depending on your situation, prepare yourself for the possibility of being shunned by the majority attending. We tried to maintain in our mind that we were there for her Mom and her Uncle. BTW at her Uncle's funeral the guilt feeling was long gone. Hope things go well for you.

i'm currently considering getting involved in some volunteer/community service type work.. any of you all do any kind of community/volunteer work that is fun and rewarding?
My wife Tink just started volunteering at the Red Cross. Today was her second full day and she loves it. She's working in the office on data entry but there is alot of needs there, you may check out your local Red Cross.

two weeks ago on a monday afternoon our house was broken into and we were robbed.
the theives took all of tink's jewelry she owned and some of mine as well.
she was wearing her wedding ring at the time but everything else is gone.
XJW_B12 Thanks for the advice!..I am definately going to get some kind of alarm system and will probably go with one that monitors as well.
I hope I didn't offend you when I used the phrase "ambulance chaser" when refering to the ADT salesman. If the guy wasn't so cocky I might have bought something from him.
Valis, Thanks for the link to the security site...I've been checking it out..Tink and I appreciate your concern.
Thanks again for everyone's replies...y'all are great!!

spiders!!!
i can handle any other bug, snakes, mice, etc....but get me near a spider, and i nearly have a breakdown.. this morning, i went to grab some clothes from the bathroom to wash, felt something crawling on my arm, looked down, giant, hairy, brown spider.
i still have the heebie-jeebies, and i probably woke up the neighbors.. *shudder*.
A 10:00am Saturday morning knock on the door.

Hey Skipper...Thanks for the advice. I have contemplated many of the things you covered. We live in a rural area, but have had numerous break-ins all around us. The thieves seemed to be in a hurry. There were alot of other things they left behind that were much more valuable then what they took. I checked my tax returns and they are still intact. I called right around the time they were here and left a message for Tink to call me when she got in. I think they must have heard it and left quicker than they had planned.
Anyway, thanks again for the advice, you've given me alot to consider.
